FLOODS CAUSE HAVOC IN DAR ES SALAAM. RC HYDER MOBILISES ASSISTANCE

DG Lion Satish Sharma expressed his sympathies to all who have been affected and prayed for an expedited response that will alleviate the problems. He has confirmed his full support and requested that we immediately seek LCIF assistance.

District 411B through the offices of RC Lion Hyder Gangji is mobilising support for the victims of this unforeseen tragedy and is requesting for all Lions to come forward and assist.

The Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Saidi Meck Sadiki, told the 'Daily News' in a telephone interview that four bodies were recovered from different areas of the city that were submerged in flood waters.

"So far, we can confirm that 4 people have lost their lives, and 8 others suffered serious injuries," said the RC who is also the chairman of the region's disaster committee. Full report is awaited from his support team.

He named areas that were severely hit by flashfloods as Tabata Valley, Kigogo, Mburahati (Ilala municipality), Tandale, Kwa Mtogole and Magomeni (Kinondoni municipality), a junction of Temeke and Kilwa road (Temeke municipality).

Subject: RE: EMERGENCY GRANT APPLICATION FOR MD411B

    Dear Governor Sharma:
LCIF Chairperson Scruggs has awarded an emergency grant of US$10,000 to assist District 411-B with the flood relief in its area. A grant check or wire transfer will be prepared and sent to the district. Until it arrives, you may use district funds to carry out the relief efforts.
In order to send a check, we will need to know the exact name of the district bank account.
In order to send a wire transfer, we will need the following information. Please indicate which piece of information pertains to the seven numerically numbered points below:
    1). Name of bank:
2). Complete street address of bank:
3). Telephone and fax number of bank:
4). Name of account beneficiary, address & phone #:
    5). Account name & number:
6). Contact person at bank to include a phone number:
7). Bank ABA or SWIFT code:
Please remember that according to the board-established grant criteria, emergency grant funds must be used only to provide basic necessities -- such as food, clothing, blankets, bottled water, and medical supplies for those affected by the disaster. The LCIF funds may not be used to rebuild damaged structures or to provide housing for disaster victims. The amount of the grant is not sufficient to meet these needs and, in addition, other relief organizations and government agencies are better positioned to address such longer-term needs.
If the grant funds are used for ineligible expenditures or handed over to another organization, the district will be asked to reimburse this amount to LCIF. Please contact LCIF if there are any questions regarding what qualifies as an eligible expenditure or an approved plan of action for the use of the grant funds.
Remember that in terms of financial accounting at the district level, the LCIF grant should be noted in the district accounts, so that the income and expenditures can be included when the accounts are audited at the end of the year. The Emergency grant final report should be reviewed and approved by the district cabinet prior to submission to LCIF.
Please find attached a final report form.
Do not hesitate to contact me if there are any questions.
    Best regards,
