THE AGONY OF THE DAR RAINS! BY LION SHABBIR JAMNAGERWALLA

The Rains started in a lazy stanza,
Which the Darians took for granted,
And eclipsed into a heavy downpour,
That paralyzed the whole Dar scenario,
The ensuing hours were full of pathetic moments,
Where the citizens were full of grief and difficult times!

Lightning was felt everywhere with small children crying in fear,
Heavy rains came continuously through the night and day,
Engulfing the streets and the homes with Water,
The waters gushed through all the small valleys,
Carrying with it all that came in its way,
The People, the Households and the Animals were not spared,
The Vehicles and the Bridges were all attacked in frenzy,
The roads and the Drainage were of no use at all,
Because they were blocked with garbage and filth,
Soon the Water came into the Houses and the Farms,
Emptying its wrath till they were all submerged,
People started crying and dying in Waters,
When there was no rescue coming from anywhere;
Children were seen atop their parent’s backs,
Others on floating doors and furniture,
Yet others were on cows paddling through muddy waters!

The Christmas caravan was indeed bogged down,
Frantic people were seen crying and sobbing,
Hysterically searching for their loved ones,
Their households and possessions all lost in these few hours,
Coldness gripping their very souls,
Hunger enveloping their misery,
Their lives in ruins and their livelihood at stake!
Almighty Allah, we earnestly pray to YOU,
We plead YOU to comfort these desperate people,
And give them patience to settle back into their normal lives,
Yes, these Rains brought havoc to all the Tanzanians!
