HECTIC DAR CLUB VISITATIONS, CLIMAX ON SATURDAY

The District Governor’s seven-days seven-clubs official visitations appears to be too hectic but the energetic Lion Satish Sharma is full of high spirits after clocking more than four hundred kilometres of the whirlwind tour.
On Tuesday 24th January,  Governor Lion Satish Sharma’s convoy visited the primary and secondary schools at Mbuyuni in the outskirts of  Dar es Salaam. Tree plantations projects and distribution of seedlings were done to both the schools by the hosting club namely Lions Club of  Dar es Salaam City.
Later in the afternoon, the Governor held a special board meeting with directors and top leadership of the Dar es Salaam City Club under the coo l–and- shade of a huge mango tree. The farm house venue was provided by PDG/PMCC Lion Abdul Majeed Khan. Several other Lions including Vice District Governor Wilson Ndesanjo were in the entourage. Earlier the club distributed  hearing-aids to the deaf and dumb primary school of Buguruni through the Governor’s hands.
On the same evening, Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Amani hosted the Governor for a Special Board of Directors meeting under Presidentship of Lion Shenaz Noray. The club handed over a manual sewing machine to Hidaya Orphans Centre where 58 orphans are being taken care of. The centre was reduced to ashes a few months ago and ever since, the club had provided assistance to them. School stationary was also given to some students.
The club has also invited the District Governor to witness the Bagamoyo Pictorial Exhibition  on Saturday 28th January at the National Museum & House of Culture. The exhibition is jointly organized by Lions Club of Amani and Hodi Tanzania.
Lion Wilson Ndesanjo Vice District Governor will address the gathering followed by a talk on Bagamoyo, the first political and colonial capital of Deutch Ostafrika, under the German Imperial flag in the 1880s.

HEALTH STATEMENT BY JOHN

As John was relaxing on his sofa pondering over the problems of the world, he rapidly realised that he didn't really give a damn.  "It's the tortoise life for me!" he said.
1.  If walking/cycling is good for your health, the postman would be immortal.
2.  A whale swims all day, only eats fish, drinks water, and is fat.
3.  A rabbit runs and hops and only lives 15 years.
4.  A tortoise doesn't run and does nothing, yet it lives for 450 years.
"And you tell me to exercise??  I don't think so," said John.

THE CLUB HEALTH ASSESSMENT FOR DECEMBER 2011 BY PDG/PMCC LION MAJID KHAN

MY DEAR LION LEADERS,

Greetings and wishing you a very happy, prosperous and blessed new year 2012.

My dear fellow Lions, I firmly believe that any high achievements always takes place in the framework of high expectation. You will definitely hit what you aim for in the long run. So why not aim high now!

Three months back (October 2011) the statistics status of our District 411B rekindled the faith and great hope of improvement of our membership growth and we were all proud to note the membership graph raising slowly above horizon and reached 1,160 members with 42 clubs.

With great dismay, despite our incessant efforts and non-stop follow up on membership growth, extension and retention of the members, we are disappointed to learn from the LCIF Club Health Assessment of December 2011 which indicates drastic fall of 35 members and cancellation of 2 clubs. What is happening to our clubs? We have some draw back; while we recruit more new members, the old members keep slipping out from the back door, so, while we take five steps forward, we also retreat four steps backward by dropping members. This is indeed an alarming indication which definitely needs to be immediately addressed and arrest the dwindling membership in our District.

In light of the above unpleasant situation, the GMT District and Club leaders, Region and Zone chairpersons, clubs Presidents and club Membership Directors are alerted to seriously dwell on this serious issue and improve the Health of clubs under their jurisdiction.

Glancing at the club Health Assessment, again it is very sad to note that over 50% of the clubs in our District have not remitted their International and District dues to-date and they have crossed the limit of over 90 days, which will further jeopardize the status of these clubs leading to cancellation. This big fall and negative progress will deny us the courtesy to stand upright in any lions gathering.

My fellow lions, we can not be beaten at anything, until we quit in our own minds, there is no failure except in our not trying. There is no defeat except from within. I am asking you to sustain your personal vision of success until you achieve it. There is nothing on earth that you can not achieve, once you mentally accept the fact that you can have/do it.

With kind regards,

LION ABDUL MAJEED KHAN

MELVIN JONES' BIRTHDAY - JANUARY 13

Melvin Jones was born on January 13, 1879 in Fort Thomas, Arizona, the son of a United States Army captain who commanded a troop of scouts. Later, his father was transferred and the family moved east. As a young man, Melvin Jones made his home in Chicago, Illinois, became associated with an insurance firm and in 1913 formed his own agency.

He soon joined the Business Circle, a businessmen's luncheon group, and was shortly elected secretary. This group was one of many at that time devoted solely to promoting the financial interests of their membership. Because of their limited appeal, they were destined to disappear.

Melvin Jones, then a 38-year-old Chicago business leader, had other plans. "What if these men," he asked, "who are successful because of their drive, intelligence and ambition, were to put their talents to work improving their communities?" Thus, at his invitation, delegates from men's clubs met in Chicago to lay the groundwork for such an organization and on June 7, 1917, Lions Clubs International was born.

Melvin Jones eventually abandoned his insurance agency to devote himself full time to Lions at International Headquarters in Chicago. It was under his dynamic leadership that Lions clubs earned the prestige necessary to attract civic-minded members.

The association's founder was also recognized as a leader by those outside the association. One of his greatest honours was in 1945 when he represented Lions Clubs International as a consultant in San Francisco, California, at the organization of the United Nations.

Melvin Jones, the man whose personal code – "You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else" – became a guiding principle for public-spirited people the world over, died June 1, 1961 at 82 years of age.

A Peaceful Mind by Lion Shabbir Jamnagerwalla

There once was a Farmer who discovered that he had lost his Watch in the Barn. It was no ordinary Watch because it had sentimental value for him. After searching high and low among the hay for a long while, he gave up and enlisted the help of a group of children playing outside the Barn.

He promised them that the person who found it would be rewarded.

Hearing this, the children hurried inside the Barn, went through and around the entire stack of hay but still could not find the Watch. Just when the Farmer was about to give up looking for his Watch, a little Boy went up to him and asked to be given another chance.

The Farmer looked at him and thought, "Why not? After all, this kid looks sincere enough."

So the Farmer sent the little Boy back in the Barn. After a while the little Boy came out with the Watch in his hand! The Farmer was both happy and surprised and so he asked the Boy how he succeeded where the rest had failed.

The Boy replied, "I did nothing but sit on the ground and listen. In the silence, I heard the ticking of the Watch and just looked for it in that direction."

Moral: A Peaceful Mind can think much better than a Worked up Mind.

Allow a few minutes of silence to your Mind every day, and see, how sharply it helps you to set your life the way you expect it to be.
