The school Head teachers of Mnazi moja Primary and Secondary schools approached us with the dreadful news that they have a total strength 1500 pupils and staff, were without a drop of water for the past 4 years. The pupils had to cross Lumumba st and travel all the way to the local Masjid to fetch water for sanitation purposes on daily basis.
We visited the school on 3rd October to personally witness just to find the conditions of the school deplorable. No drinking water and the toilets were beyond limits for any human.
However our expert in drilling bore holes was vigilant enough to point out that there were already two wells in the compound.
We immediately reverted to the head teachers for explanation as to why the same were not being utilized? To which they reported that they were under the control of the local government and was under lock. We asked them to contact them promising them resumption of water supply.
They took the initiative and the matter was resolved only to find everything in the shed stolen.Ironically the name plate during its opening was intact.
The next day the Lions went into action,hiring personnel and machinery and personally supervised the proceedings and further to that the schools were promised safe filtration plants to avail them with drinking water directly from the dispensers. The project was staged as:
Total Expense was 8,770,000/= for both schools.
- the flushing of the wells clearing them of all impurities.The laying of all pipe fittings over a distance of almost 150 mts,
- the building of state of the art dispensers. The attachment of Latest filters attached to two 2,000 litre tanks.
- The piping and sanitation fittings fixed to the staff toilets. Special exterior supply of water to other facilities.
- further planning to plant 100 fruit trees in the compound at the cost of TShs 500,000.
Total Expense was 8,770,000/= for both schools.
His excellency the Mayor will preside at the opening at a date to be announced after completion of piping.
