MWANZA LIONS PLAN TO OBSERVE WORLD SERVICE DAY AT MISSUNGWI

On Saturday, 4PM, 8th of October 2011,  Mwanza Lions have planned to carry out a worthwhile project in Rural Missungwi town, which is 45km as you drive towards Shinyanga. The club members will visit the School for Blind, Deaf and Dumb and also the camp of Albinos situated close to the location.
About 150 needy will be assisted by providing them with blankets, biscuits, soft drinks, basic medicines, etc, Your participation is very much welcome.

WALK FOR SIGHT BY PWANI CLUB IN COLLABORATION WITH SHREE HINDU MAHILA MANDAL

Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Pwani together with Shree Hindu Mahila Mandal  recently walked 5km to raise 16.5ml TShs for their LY 2011/12 Sight First activities.  This historic collaboration was led by the Mayor of Dar es Salaam Honourable Abdallah Chaurembo. WORLD SERVICE DAY - WALK WITH MWANZA VALENTINES ON 9TH OCTOBER 2011

Dear Lions, Leos, Friends and Family, 

Greetings.

We are celebrating "WORLD SERVICE DAY" by Walking for Charity.
Our invitation to participate in this Walk is extended to all Lions.

The walk will be on 9th of October 2011.

The walk will start at 7.30 a.m. from Mwanza Sports club. The route for walk is approximately 2km and within the city centre.
 
Please join us in this event and be a cause for a smile in the faces of less fortunate of our community to whom our club is trying to provide a better future.

WORLD SIGHT DAY 2011 - 13TH OCTOBER AT TEMEKE MWEMBEYANGA, DAR ES SALAAM


World Sight Day (WSD) is an international day of awareness to focus attention on the global issue of avoidable blindness and visual impairment. This year, there is no global theme for World Sight Day 2011.  WSD11 is officially observed on 13 October 2011 worldwide. Event dates, and activities to mark the occasion can vary around the world.
Global Key Messages
  • 80% of all visual impairment can be avoided or cured
  • About 284 million people are visually impaired worldwide: 39 million are blind and 245 have low vision
  • About 90% of the world's visually impaired people live in developing countries
  • Globally, uncorrected refractive errors are the main cause of visual impairment but in middle and low-income countries cataracts remain the leading cause
  • The number of people visually impaired from infectious diseases has greatly reduced in the last 20 years
This year, the municipalities of Dar es Salaam are celebrating the event at Temeke, Mwembe Yanga. All clubs in Dar es Salaam are invited to contact the RMO at the City Council. Lion Zahira can be of useful assistance.
Pwani Club is participating during the event which will begin from 8am up to 5pm. Any Lion wishing to participate is welcome to join the wagon.

WORLD SIGHT DAY PREP BY DAR FRATERNITY


During the meeting held on Sunday, 2nd Oct, 2011, The District convenor for Sight First Lion Shanti Shah  proposed to organize a joint activity of the clubs in the fraternity of Dar es salaam for World Sight Day celebration. The joint activity will result in having this event at grand way and also another step towards media coverage and attracting new members to join Lionism.
Lion Shah indicated that Mzizima Club proposed to sponsor the entire activity and requested other clubs to provide volunteers. He, nevertheless, welcomed  donations of medicines and spectacles form any club.
Clubs are thus requested to contact Lion Shanti Shah to confirm their participation in the event soonest. 
I request the clubs to fully participate in the event and take the advantage of the sponsorship in order to fulfill the District goals.

BORE WELL AT MWASANI - ANOTHER PWANI TWINNING FEAT

ZONE 2 MEETING INITIATES SHAHI DARBAR SOFT LAUNCH

Lions from the fraternity enjoyed dinner offered by Shahi Darbar on 6th of September 2011 when Lion Shakil Ansari carried out a soft launch with Zone 2 Meeting. Lions gathered at the venue located at Masaki along Chole Road.
The Zone 2 meeting was hosted by Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Pwani.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was carried out by ZC Lion Zahira Patwa while ZC Lion Babul, Amani President Lion Shenaz Noray, Pwani President Lion Sara Qadri and District Officer Lion Abdul Hai watched.
Lion Shakil mentioned with great honour on the decision by Pwani to hold the meeting at his premises and offered handsome discounts to all Lions whenever they wanted to hold their meetings or gatherings.
Lion Shakil proceeded to officially open the restaurant on 27th of September 2011 at a grand ceremony.
We all wish Lion Shakil success in his business.
