PHOTOGRAPH CONTEST MD411B

 The District Governor Lion Satish Sharma has announced that he will be giving out monthly bonus points to a winning club on the following basis:
1.      Submission of a well composed activity picture.
2.      Must have a caption.
3.      Must be valid for the month when activity took place.
4.      Should not be a staged group photograph.
5.      Only 1 picture will win during the month. There will be no runner up.
6.      Submission deadline will be 7th day of the month for photographs of the preceding month.
7.      Judgment will be done by DG and ably assisted by both his CS and Assistant CS. Final decision will be by DG.
8.      Minimum entries is not material in this contest. Thus even a single entry will be judged accordingly.
9.      Clubs can send only one picture per activity. If there is more than 1 activity you may send  for each activity.

You are requested to circulate this email to all Presidents/Secretaries of respective Lions/Leo clubs.
For example the contest will be judged on 15th of October for the activity carried out in September.
Again on 15th of November for activity carried out in October and so forth.
The winning photograph will appear in the blog.

BASIC POINTS TO CONSIDER:

The categories are:

1. Impact, creativity, shapes, dynamics, interpretation and subject matter- 25%
2. Composition, perspective, direction, design, graphics and centre of interest -  25%
3. Color balance, tone, color quality, harmony and lighting -  25%
4. Workmanship, print quality, style, presentation and techniques used -  25%

BUGURUNI DEAF AND DUMB SCHOOL ACTIVITY BY AMANI CLUB


Amani Club proudly announces it's recent activity of donating cooking pots, cups and sewing machines to the Deaf and Blind School on Saturday. The donation was worth 600,000TShs.
PDG and PMCC Lion Abdul Majeed Khan was the Chief Guest during the handing over ceremony.
RC Lion Hyder, ZC Lion Babul, Convenor for this activity Lion Dr. Hassan Hussain and President Lion Shenaz Noray, 1VP Lion Kaushik Assawla and other members attended this program.
This activity was reported in the Citizen Newspaper on Sunday. This is included in this report.

WORLD SERVICE AND U.N. DAY BY DC LION TALIB

The District Governor has nominated me District Convenor, for the World Service and U.N. Day. In this respect I write to solicit your full support for our proposed activities to celebrate 8th October - Lions World Service Day.

 We hope to be favoured with your Club's full participation and cooperation.

The plan  is as follows:
  1. A big joint activity comprising all the Clubs in Dar es Salaam to be organised on Sunday 9th October 2011 from 9:00 am.
  2. A humanitarian activity to provide soft drinks, water, biscuits, sweets, fruits etc at the Muhimbili National Hospital.
  3. All the Club members will gather at a particular place and everything will be distributed to various wards by Lion members only.
  4. Appropriate banners will be made and displayed at different places within Muhimbili Hospital.
  5. Arrangements to cover this activity in the media has been made. This is Dar es Salaam Lions fraternity activity, family members and friends are welcome.

I have no doubt in my mind that you all are doing tremendous wonderful work for the needy and underprivileged people of our community.

I sincerely wish to congratulate and appreciate your selfless nature in enhancing the good work and building the eminent image of our great association in the eyes of the countrymen of Tanzania.

To-day, the 24th Sept 2011, I was invited by Lions club of DSM “AMANI” to witness and grace the occasion of their meaningful activity of Donation of 2 Sewing Machines and Assorted cooking utencils to Buguruni Primary School of Deaf & Dumb with 266 students.

My dear Presidents, the intention of sending this e-mail to you is to highlight this school which is in the category of a Rare School in Tanzania with 266 students who are deaf and dumb and they are in dire need of the following requisites to make their lives a bit comfortable.

Hearing Aids (200 Pcs)
Mattresses mosquito nets, Bed sheets & Pillows
Sports Gears.
Tables, Chairs & Benches.
VIP Toilets (Ordinary Pit Hole Latrines)
Water Tanks (Sim Tank/Afri Tank)
Raw food stuff (Corn flour, Rice, Beans, Sugar, Oil etc.
General Medical check up including Sight.

PEACE POSTER CONTEST

This is to remind you to order your club's peace poster kit for participating in this year's Peace poster competition  immediately as the last day to buy this from international is 1st October 2011.

As per District Governor's Handbook, every club has to involve minimum of three schools, and the deadline for the submission is 15th November. , clubs to submit to their zone chairperson by the end of October, as to reach to District governor's office on time.
I have a few kits with me. If any club wants to conduct the contest please contact me as early as possible.
The theme of the 2011-12 Peace Poster Contest is "Children Know Peace." Students, ages 11, 12 or 13 on November 15, are eligible to participate.

LIONS BUSOGA TRACHOMA-TRIACHIASIS PROJECT

Entebbe and Iganga Lions Clubs are running a Lions Busoga Trachoma-Triachiasis Project to help realize Lions International vision 2020 of eliminating reversible blindness.  Trachoma control is being achieved through implementation of the “SAFE” strategy. The SAFE method comprises of four components:
S: Surgery; A: Antibiotics; F: Facial cleanliness; and E: Environmental change.
The club members and doctors set out for an eye screening and treatment camp through the week 8th to 12th August 2011.  Patients with TT were identified for surgery and those with other eye conditions were treated, while those with cataract and glaucoma were referred to the health facility where they were treated accordingly. They moved up and down Health centres in Iganga.  The drug cost around UShs. 20,000/= a dose! All this is courtesy of the Lions Clubs International Fund through Lions Clubs of Entebbe and Iganga, sponsorship of about US $85,000. 




LIONS EYE BUS UGANDA – LEBU


Kampala Host Lions Club is actively engaged in carrying out eye screening and surgery using LEBU as a means of expediting services to the needy. 
History of LEBU
The Prestatyn, Rhyl Lions Clubs (UK) and Cheadle Lions Club (UK), MD 105, UK through Cheadle Lions Club (UK) started and implemented the Lions Eye Bus Uganda (LEBU) project. The bus was donated and delivered to Kampala Host Lions Club by a team of Lions who arrived in Kampala on the 29/30th May 2011.  The members of the Lions team included:

The bus is fully equipped and has two operating beds, cataract operating sets, microscopes etc.. The 1st Vice District Governor of MD 411B and Lion Joseph W. Kiwanuka and other members represented the District.

LONGIDO EYE CAMP

Lions Club of Arusha on 28ty August 2011 organised Eye Camp at Longido which is about 70 kms from Arusha. The activity was well attended by club members inclusive of District Governor Lion Satish Sharma. The DG congratulated the club members and emphasised on the need of “ensuring that all school children to have regular eye checkups”.
342 patients including school children were successfully screened.
Medicines and eye glasses were dispensed free of charge.
The camp also provided food to all who attended.

SEPTEMBER 2011 MESSAGE FROM ZONE CHAIRPERSON, ZONE 2, LION ZAHIRA PATWA


Two months of the current Lionistic Year have passed and they have been very eventful for the clubs in my zone. My request is for you to concentrate on MEMBERSHIP GROWTH as well as serving the needy.  The more hands we have to serve, the more we can serve!!

1st District Governor’s Advisory Meeting for ZONE 2 will be held on 6th September, 2011 at Shahi Darbar, Masaki from 8:00pm.

Our District Governor, Lion Satish Sharma is visiting Dar es Salaam on 17th September, 2011 for the 1st Cabinet Meeting, Banquet & Leadership Seminar.  I urge all Lions to attend these programs in good numbers.  More information on these events will be circulated by the Region Chairman. 

Please note the following important issues for the month of Septembers which all clubs should implement : -

• DISTRICT and International Dues to be paid within the First 150 days of the beginning of the  Lionistic year.
• Audited accounts for the year 2010-2011 to be approved and sent to the respective Cabinet Treasurer, Sub-Treasurer & District Officers.
• Finalize your plans for the 8th October World Service Day.
• Invite ZONE CHAIRPERSON OR DISTRICT OFFICER to visit your Club.
 Prepare your Monthly newsletter and send it to each of your member and District Officers.
 ENSURE your club’s MMR and Activity Reports are being sent on time.
 Encourage your members to attend the Leadership Seminar being held on 17th September, 2011 in Dar es Salaam
• Arrange for an Inter Club activity.
